Fifth grade students from George Washington, Westlake and Woodrow Wilson Schools visited the Hall of Justice on January 29th for Fred Korematsu Day. They watched a re-enactment of the 1944 Korematsu v. U.S. Supreme Court case, heard from Yoshiko Kanazawa, a Japanese American who was formerly incarcerated and toured the County Executive’s Office and Board of Supervisors’ Chambers to gain a deeper understanding of local government. Supervisor David Canepa honored each school by having the teachers - Ms. Marinkovich, Ms. Camacho and Ms. Rodriguez come up to receive certificates.
