Ramadan Meal Waivers
Ramadan Meal Waiver Registration
Ramadan Take Home Meals
On behalf of schools with students fasting for Ramadan, the California Department of Education (CDE) has approved Jefferson Elementary School District for a Ramadan Meal Waiver. This means that students who are fasting during Ramadan will have the option to receive a take home lunch for the day of service, and a breakfast for the following day beginning Friday, February 28-Friday, April 4, 2025.
This waiver allows schools to send a breakfast and a lunch home with students, in attendance, that are fasting. Non-fasting students will receive congregate school breakfast and lunch, as usual, that are to be consumed at school. Each meal is served according to state and federal school breakfast/lunch requirements.
Program Guidelines and Procedures:
- Only students who are fasting during Ramadan may receive non-congregate meals under this waiver.
- One breakfast and one lunch will be provided.
- Meals will only be available on weekdays when school is in session.
- Participation flexibility: Under this waiver, meals served are free of charge. However, if a student chooses to consume a school breakfast, or a lunch during the school day, and then participates in the non-congregate, take home meal program, there will be a charge for the second meal. A second breakfast is $1.50 and a second lunch is $2.75. Each additional milk cost is $.50.
- Meals must be given directly to students in attendance. They cannot be given to a parent or guardian in absence of the child.
- Meals must be picked up by students between 12:30 pm-2:00 pm. From Friday, February 28 - Friday, April 4, 2025, take-home school meals will be distributed towards the end of each school day to students whose parents have requested the service by completing the online form or a paper form (available in the school office). Meals are to be picked up at the school kitchen/Multi Use Room.
- The school food services assistant will distribute, and account for each meal served.
- The take home meals are in place of the regular school meals offered during the school day. Some food items may require cold storage and/or cooking before consumption.
If your child(ren) are fasting during Ramadan and you wish for them to participate in this take home meal program, please complete the online registration form by going to:
