After School Programs |
Tobias is proud to host a variety of after school educational programs. Schedules and particular classes vary each year. Classes include:

Appointments |
If you need to schedule a doctor/dentist appointment during the school day, please have your child attend school prior to, or following, the appointment. The school receives state funding even if your child only attends a portion of the day. Please notify the teacher one day prior to the appointment so that homework can be arranged. |
Birthday Parties |
Happy Birthday! Please contact your child’s teacher regarding his/her birthday celebration policy. |
Breakfast |
Breakfast is available in the MUR from 8:00-8:25, and is open to all students. |
Cell Phones at School |
District policy states that cell phones:
We encourage you to have your children keep them at home. Lost, stolen, or broken cell phones are not the responsibility of the school. If they are used by a student they will be taken and returned only to parents after a conference with principal. |
Class Scheduling |
For many reasons we do not move children once placed in class. Any concerns about the program should be addressed with teacher first, followed by an appointment scheduled with the principal. |
Computers |
Children have access to our mobile laptop lab. |
Conferences |
Good communication between home and school is essential. Conferences may be requested anytime throughout the school year. Formal conference dates are scheduled within Parent Teacher Conference Dates |
Dress Code |
Appropriate clothing assists with maintaining a positive learning environment. Short shorts, halters, tank tops, sandals, step-in shoes, t-shirts with distracting slang/pictures, and baggy pants without a belt should not be worn to school. |
Drop off and Pick up |
Traffic during arrival and dismissal times can be very congested. Double and triple parking as well as U turns are safety violations and the police department will issue citations. It is best to drop off and pick up on Bradley St. and Brooklawn St. Never park in front of school driveway. You will be ticketed if you do so. |
Emergency Information |
Please contact the office immediately with any changes in contact information (home, cell, work phone numbers, address, and nearest neighbor/friend in case you cannot be reached). |
English Learners |
Eligible children receive additional services in the regular classroom or pull-out program. MH Tobias has an English Language Learner block. By California State Law – 45 Minutes of English Language Learner instruction should be taught every day (30 minutes on ERWs). |

Homemade Treats |
San Mateo County Ordinance mandates that homemade treats not be served during school hours. |
Homework |
Children receive homework four days a week (Monday – Thursday) with occasional long-term projects requiring weekend time. Please check with your child’s teacher for the number of minutes required at each grade level. |
Illness/Injury |
Children who become sick or injured during the day will be cared for in the office. The secretary will contact you if it is determined further medical assistance is required. |
Independent Study |
If you know in advance your child will be absent for 3 days or more, please let the school know 2 weeks in advance. We recommend avoiding taking time off during school days. |
Instrumental Music |
Children in grades 5 may participate in the district-sponsored weekly program, as made available. |
Learning Center |
The Learning Center provides instruction for Resource Specialist Program (RSP) students. Instruction is staffed by a special education teacher and aide. |
Leaving School |
Your child may leave campus during the day with a parent/guardian or person named on the Emergency Card. All children must be signed out in the office by an adult before leaving school grounds. |
Lost and Found |
Please label all personal belongings. Found items are stored on a rolling cart in the Multi-Use Room (MUR). Unclaimed items are donated to local charities in June. |
Lunch |
School lunch will be served beginning on the 1st day of school. Students who are approved for the Free & Reduced last year will remain eligible for the 1st month of school until new applications are completed. Meals are free this year. |
Medication |
All medication (inhalers, prescription, and over-the-counter) requires doctor’s authorization and must be stored in the office. In addition, the office must have a signed “Medical Emergency and Hold Harmless” document filed with the secretary. |

Native Plant Garden |
Children may use this area for science and ecology projects. The Daly City Parks Department generously supports this program. |

Outdoor Education |
Fifth graders learn about the environment by attending a four day program at Jones Gulch in La Honda. |
Pets |
Please do not bring any pets on school grounds without prior permission from a teacher or principal. |
Physical Education |
Physical Education will be administered by PE staff at regularly scheduled times. |
Positive Behaviors Support Structures |
Also known as PBIS, Positive Behaviors Support Structures is a district wide implementation which includes school wide and classroom structures & procedures to support students in mindful actions and decision making in the event of a "poor choice," corrective actions are implemented and are progressive. Parents/guardians are expected to participate in helping guide and support students in learning from inappropriate choices. |
Progress Reports |
By the 7th week of each trimester, progress reports are sent home for all children receiving a 1 in any subject. This provides ample time to create a plan for remediation. |
PTO |
Our school has an active and supportive parent/teacher association. Please contact the office to see how you can become involved. |
Report Cards |
Report cards are distributed in November, March, and June. |
Safety Drills |
Fire, Earthquake, Civil Disaster, and Intruder drills are conducted at regular intervals throughout the school year. |

Wednesday Envelopes: While there may be various hard copy items that still go home, MHT has gone green in terms of limiting hard copies sent home. School Information will be sent by school messenger and reinforced through teacher newsletters. It is vital we have current parent/guardian contact information included on the emergency forms. |
School Spirit Days |
Go Eagles! Every Friday children and staff wear their Tobias sweatshirt or t-shirt. Please contact the PTO for purchasing. A variety of other spirit days will be discussed with PTO. |
Speech |
The district speech program provides receptive and expressive language assistance to those identified students. |
Student ABCs |
This Code of Conduct explains school and classroom behavior expectations. A parent/guardian and your child must sign the code of conduct acknowledging that they agree to abide by the expectations. |

Visitation |
We welcome you to our school! Please contact your child’s teacher or the principal to make an appointment. To ensure a quality instructional program, please limit each classroom visit to no more than 20 minutes. Visitors must sign in with the office before visiting any classroom and wear a badge. |
Volunteers |
We love volunteers! Any parent working with students in the classroom needs to be cleared by JESD. Volunteers must fill out a clearance form and be approved prior to working with students on campus. Please contact your child’s teacher or the principal if you are able to assist in any capacity. |
Walking to School |
Your child should use the safest route to school, crossing streets within pedestrian crosswalks, intersections, and with the crossing guard at Southgate Ave. and Westridge Rd. In case of emergencies, children should know their name, address, and telephone number. |
Zero Tolerance |
State law and district policy require immediate suspension followed by mandatory expulsion for children committing certain acts. A parent/guardian and your child must sign the district form acknowledging the policy. |
