Your child's safety is our first priority! The information below will help both parents and the school maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
Morning Drop Off and After School Pick Up Rules:
- Don't double park; it blocks visibility for other children and vehicles
- Use the loading zone only
- Don't load or unload children across the street from school
- Get children ready before leaving the house so they can quickly get out of the car
- Students are not allowed to wait at the front of the stairs
- Drive slowly, do not whip around cars
- Be courteous to other drivers and parents/students
- Respect the driveways of our neighbors
- Carpool to reduce the number of vehicles at the school
Traffic Safety:
We are a Safe Routes 2 School area. Safety is our first concern. Please note that traffic procedures have changed for picking up and dropping off children based on the recommendation and input from parents, teachers and the city engineer.
We ask that you be Peaceful, Aware, Wise and Safe. Do not park in neighbors’ driveways. This is private property. Do not double-park in the street. This is dangerous. Do not park in the white or red zones. This is against the law and dangerous. Do not “jay walk”.
The flow of traffic circles clock-wise around the school for safety and improved traffic flow. If you plan to pick up your child by car, drive down Lake Vista and turn right onto Fieldcrest. You will notice a line of cars waiting to pick up children. Get in line behind the other cars. Students will be waiting alongside the inside of the fence in a line. Teachers will put students in cars as they progress to the front of the gate.
THE FLOW LANE IS THE SOUTH END OF FIELDCREST BY THE BIG GATE NEAR THE CAFETERIA.
NOTE: THERE IS NO "FLOW LANE" AT THE STEPS IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL.
Once a student has been picked up, you will continue on Fieldcrest and turn either left or right on Westlawn or continue straight on Fieldcrest away from the school. DO NOT MAKE A U TURN at Fieldcrest and Westlawn. This is dangerous for walking children. There may already be a new “No U Turn” sign at the intersection.
At the Westlawn side of the school: Please do not park in the white bus-loading zone.
Whether you walk, or “park and walk” or drive through the “flow lane”, safety is important. Talk to your child. Have a plan for where you want him/her to wait if you are walking or park and walk.
There are several options for where you can meet your child: Westlawn, Lake Vista or at the upper field exit on Lake Vista. Please share this information with all family members or friends who will be picking up or dropping off your child. Help us keep every child safe while riding or walking to school. Please be mindful of traffic laws, speed limits, and children crossing the street and our neighbors’ driveways during busy times. Discuss with your child about crossing at intersections and not between parked cars or in the middle of the street. We expect adults to model good traffic manners and follow rules. You are your child’s first teacher and they observe how you behave. PLEASE model courteous, safe, respectful behavior.
School Begins at 8:25am:
Children cannot arrive earlier than 8:10. Only children eating the school breakfast may arrive starting at 8:00 am. Please do not send your children to school before 8:00 as there is no supervision to monitor your child. Students eating in the cafeteria should clean their area and wait calmly in the cafeteria until 8:10 for your safety. If your schedule prohibits you from dropping off at the designated time or picking up after school, fee-based before and after school childcare is available on our site. To learn more about this option contact the school office.
School Ends at 3:00pm:
Children must be picked up by 3:05. By contract, teacher supervision ends at 3:05. There is no supervision after 3:05. Students are not allowed to play on the playground structure while waiting for parents. Only students in after school programs are permitted on school grounds after 3:05 p.m. Please be aware of TK/Kindergarten release times, Early Release Wednesdays, and Minimum Days. See Bell Schedule for more information.
If at any time you are going to be late, please make other arrangements with family or friends. Parents who are consistently late will need to make other arrangements with the Extended Day Care program and pay fees. WE ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE FREE CHILD CARE. OUR STAFF IS WORKING AND NOT AVAILABLE TO CARE FOR YOUR CHILD AFTER HOURS.
