Dear Daniel Webster Room 14 Families,

I'm excited to begin the new 2012-2013 school year with your children.  Moving to third grade is a big jump for most students, and they may be challenged by the pace and scope of our lessons.  Many children adjust quickly, but some take a little longer to become comfortable.  Please let me know if your child is finding third grade very exhausting, or challenging.

Here are some ideas to help with your child's transition to third grade.

  • Make sure your child has breakfast either at home or school each day.
  • A third grader needs nine to ten hours of sleep each night.
  • Read and check your child's planner every day to make sure your child has finished homework the best that s/he can.  Initial the planner.
  • Always place homework, and supplies in your child's backpack right after s/he finishes it.
  • Read to your child in your home language every day.
  • Practice math addition and subtraction facts for at least ten minutes every day, until s/he knows them by heart.  Then work on multiplication facts.
  • If your have questions or concerns, you can always reach me by e-mail  at dhart@jsd.k12.ca.us, or by phone at 650.991.1222.  I will get back to you as soon as possible!

Thank you for allowing me to educate your child.  I look forward to meeting all of my families in the next few weeks.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Hart
