Parents Often Ask: How do I keep track of all the events, activities and assignments at Fernando Rivera?
Here are some tips to help you stay up to date:
Most notices go home on Wednesdays so it’s good to check with your student each week to make sure they are giving them to you.
Take time to read the monthly Principal’s Newsletter, sent home the first Wednesday of the month. It is also posted on the website under "monthly newsletter" in the parents section. You may also sign up to receive our newsletter by email by clicking here.
Make a copy of the calendar in the Binder Reminder. It has all the events for the year, listed by month. It’s always a good idea to call the office and double check on dates, however, because sometimes we do need to change them as the year goes on.
Check our website frequently. We are working hard to make our website a valuable tool for helping families stay involved.
Look at the homework assignments written in your child’s binder reminder every evening and also look over completed homework. If your child is having difficulty with homework, or is telling you that there is no homework, we strongly suggest that you call the school immediately so we can help your student get back on track.
If you can’t find the information you need, please give us a call. Our office number is (650) 991–1225 and we are happy to hear from you!
If you have any concerns about your student's experience at Fernando Rivera, please do not hesitate to let us know. Just call the office at 991.1225 and speak with the Principal, Ms. Parcels, or the Vice Principal, Mrs. Lujan. You may also leave a message for your child's teacher if your question is about a class assignment or your child's progress in a certain class.
Cyberbullying:
Cyberbullying is when people use the internet, email, text messaging, or instant messaging to spread rumors, start fights, or say hateful things about another person. Some students use social networking sites such as Myspace or Facebook to spread rumors or bully others.
Although cyberbullying often happens outside of school time, the repercussions spill onto campus. Students may not feel comfortable or safe at school if they are the victims of cyberbullying. One of the dangers of bullying over the internet, is that the bully’s message can be forwarded to many other people in an instant. If a rumor is started over the internet, students can learn about the rumor right away, and can then join the bully in mistreating and ostracizing the victim.
The Jefferson Elementary School District does not tolerate any type of bullying behavior. Students can be suspended and even expelled for engaging in cyberbullying. If the bullying is severe, the school will involve the police. Fernando Rivera students have been educated on these school policies and the possible consequences if they engage in bullying or cyberbullying.
We encourage all parents and guardians to monitor their child’s computer use carefully, including his/her pages on any social networking sites such as Myspace or Facebook. Please remember that most of these sites require a child to be 14 years old in order for them to legally participate.
Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe. If your child is experiencing bullying of any kind, or if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the principal or vice principal at (650) 991 - 1225.
