We wish all of our partners, students, and families a happy and safe Thanksgiving! Please note that our school sites will be closed Monday, November 25 - Friday November 29 and our District Offices will be closed November 28-November 29.
As we gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our amazing community. To our dedicated teachers, hardworking students, supportive families, and committed staff – thank you for making our schools a place of learning, growth, and joy. On November 14, 1960, six-year-old Ruby Bridges became the first Black student to integrate at her elementary school in New Orleans. Her courageous act of showing up to school each day played an important role in the civil rights movement. Several of our schools will be honoring this important event by recreating this walk.
Join us in honoring Ruby Bridges by teaching children about her story or taking a mindful walk while reflecting on Ruby's courage. Learn more about Ruby and how to celebrate her role in the civil rights movement atwww.smcoe.org/rubybridges.
Our district office and schools will be closed on Monday, November 11, in honor of Veterans Day. We encourage all staff and families to remember and honor the more than 18 million veterans living across the country today. Their courage, dedication, and sacrifice inspire us every day.
National Native American Heritage Month provides the opportunity for all in San Mateo County to learn about the Ramaytush Ohlone people, their role in history, and their efforts to keep their culture alive.
Join us in recognizing November as National Native American Heritage Month and the Friday after Thanksgiving as Native American Heritage Day. Learn more and find other resources on the San Mateo County Office of Education’s website.
Join us in thanking our school leaders during this Week of the School Administrator!
As education leaders, school administrators play an important role in providing quality and equitable education to all students in public schools. They work closely with families, labor organizations, elected boards, and the community to ensure the priorities of excellence and equity remain at the forefront of their work.
If you see a school administrator this week, take a second to thank them for their dedication to education.
